The RSPCA is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with hundreds of staff across NSW to care for animals.

Our Broken Hill Shelter is looking for a proactive and experienced Animal Attendant to join our dedicated Shelter staff on a casual basis, required to work on weekends and Public Holidays as well. Animal Attendants are responsible for ensuring a high standard of animal care is maintained for all animals in the care of RSPCA NSW and providing advice to members of the public. The position is also responsible for ensuring the general running of the shelter from day to day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Animal care duties including administering medication, providing enrichment and training, rehabilitation, feeding, observing animals for injury and illness, assisting with euthanasia, grooming, assessment of animals, and disposal of cadavers.
  • Completing general errands and assisting the Practice Manager with ad hoc requests
  • Administration duties including record keeping and database management
  • Cleaning of animal enclosures and administer medications when required
  • Cleaning of shelter and office areas
  • Managing maintenance requests
  • Actively participating in training, professional development programs, team meetings and discussions

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Certificate II in Animal Studies or similar would be advantageous
  • Unrestricted drivers licence
  • Previous experience in animal handling advantageous
  • Previous experience in a customer service role
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently
  • Ability follow directions and carry out tasks in a timely manner
