RSPCA NSW is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with hundreds of staff across New South Wales to care for animals.

Our veterinary hospital, located at Broken Hill, is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our dedicated animal care team on a full-time basis on a 12 month fixed term contract. Our nurses work in all areas of the hospital, so there is plenty of medical nursing and one-on-one patient contact. The nurses are responsible for all IV catheter placement, blood draws, anaesthesia monitoring, dental scale and polish. We have a
small team of experienced veterinarians and veterinary nurses who love to share their knowledge and experience, so there is always the opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge. Shifts will be rostered between 8:00 a.m.-5.30p.m. and there may be the need to work on weekends and some public holidays. On a day-to-day basis you will:

  • Carry out general husbandry duties
  • Triage incoming animals and providing initial health assessments
  • Ensure appropriate diagnostics are performed and results recorded
  • Maintain hygiene and infection control protocols
  • Administer medication
  • Complete blood collection
  • Assist in performing medical procedures, and surgical procedures when required
  • Assist with private consultations

To be successful in this role candidates will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing – essential
  • At least two (2) years previous experience as veterinary nurse
  • Strong communication skills: both written and verbal
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, and be a great team player
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and use initiative
  • Excellent animal handling skills
  • Good customer service skills
